“Rainbow Days” Oxford Pride Parade - Saturday 2rd June 2018
Oxford's annual LGBT Pride event, with two stages acts throughout the day. Parade kicks off from midday.
With less than 40 days to go until this year’s Oxford Pride event, this year’s Committee are pleased to announce the details of this year’s festival and main event.
We start with the annual Dog Show on Sunday 21st May, in the Castle Quarter. It’s a fabulous day, and fun for all the family. Then commencing Friday 26th May a series of different events across City including a themed walk, a talk at Wadham College, looking back at the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality, a comedy night held at the Plush Lounge and the Broken Spokes Bike Co-Op are pimping their cycles for the Oxford Pride parade.
On Saturday 2nd June, the day of Oxford Pride, the Parade will form up at Radcliffe Square from 11am and departs at noon towards Broad Street, then up to Cornmarket, Queen Street to Bonn Square. The Parade will then continue along New Road to enter the Castle Quarter event site down the drive to Malmaison. Everyone is welcome to join the parade, or cheer along as it comes past.
From 1pm two stages, one within the Castle Quarter and one on Paradise Street will come alive with music and entertainment. Acts announced include The Oxford Gospel Choir, Britain’s got Talent finalist La Voix, Sean Smith from Same Difference, BBC 2’s Folk Musician of the Year winner Megan Henwood, Ru Paul’s Drag Race finalist Courtney Act, and headlining will be 90’s dance act N-Trance.
The Street Party on Paradise Street run’s until 10:30pm and has a host of DJ’s and singers.
This year’s theme is “Rainbow Days – A summer of love”. So think flowers, daisies and hippies, and following last year’s them “We can be heroes”, it gives everyone the chance to dress up if the so desire.
From a Pride themed bus to rainbows on the fairway Oxford Pride are certainly making their presence known this year.
2018 has seen the largest amount of festival events with everything from photographs in a church to burlesque in an arts space, micro talks in a university and karaoke and quizzes in the pubs- there has been something for everyone.
This Saturday 2 June will see the highlight of Pride with the Pride Parade marching proudly from Radcliffe Square to the Castle Quarter. The march will be led off by Oxford Bus Company’s splendid rainbow bus for a short while and then participants will proudly make their way through the streets of Oxford and down Paradise Street for the festivities.
Pride Day promises to be a fun packed event with market stalls, food, drink and a lot of fun. The main stage this year boasts acts that include Oxford’s Gospel Choir, a semi finalist from Britain’s Got Talent and one of the X Factors favourite acts.
