The Big Weekend Friday 25 August, 2017
Manchester Pride’s flagship event, The Big Weekend is part of The Manchester Pride Festival and takes place in Manchester’s world famous Gay Village over the August Bank Holiday Weekend where tens of thousands of people come together to celebrate, with pride, some of the biggest names in music.
The Parade Saturday 26 August, 2017
The Manchester Pride Parade is one of The Festival's most highly anticipated events, with thousands of people marching proudly together through the streets of Manchester and tens of thousands of supporters cheering Manchester Pride 2017 along the way.
This year Manchester Pride 2017 like you to join them as we turn the streets of Manchester in to one of the largest graduation parades ever seen. Manchester Pride 2017 theme centres around the importance of education as a key factor in the fight to end the inequalities and injustices still faced by LGBT people around the world.
Our high school uniforms consisted of ties that were too short and blazers that were too big, so we’re looking across the Atlantic at pure Ivy League chic but some of us are signing up at Rydell High; T Birds and Pink Ladies - YES!
But our ‘Class of 2017’ looks stretch far beyond the classroom. Think sports teams, geeks, marching bands and the cheerleader crew. We’re absolutely sure some of you will fancy taking charge as Principal or Coach.
So, assemble your squad and gather your glee club as it’s time for your graduation ceremony through the streets of Manchester.
So whether you're a group of friends gleaming with pride, colleagues and allies standing shoulder to shoulder or an organisation with an important message of support, the Manchester Pride Parade places you at the centre of the celebrations.
Candelit Vigil Monday 28 August, 2017
The culmination of The Big Weekend is The Candlelit Vigil in which Sackville Gardens is turned into a sea of flickering candles as we take a minute to remember those we’ve lost to the HIV virus and join together to fight the epidemic worldwide and the stigma that still exists.
The Candlelit Vigil also provides you with a space to remember those close to you who may no longer be with us and presents an opportunity to stand together in a united front as we recognise the many challenges that still exist and face LGBT communities from Manchester to the rest of the world.
The Candelit Vigil is the spiritual heart of the Manchester Pride festival and there is a truly magical and moving atmosphere of quiet reflection in the gardens.
The Candlelit Vigil is delivered in collaboration with our charity partner George House Trust.
