The Rainbow Cactus was originally established in 1997, The Rainbow Cactus has been Virginia Beach’s home for the LGBTQ+ community and our amazing allies for more than two decades. We first opened our doors on Holland Road, creating a safe, joyful space where everyone gay, straight, and in between could come together, celebrate freely, and feel at home.

In 2023, we began a new chapter at South Lynnhaven Road. Our new space carries the same heart, spirit, and vibrant energy that’s made The Rainbow Cactus a cornerstone of Hampton Roads nightlife and community pride.

From our legendary drag shows and high-energy dance nights to community events and fundraisers that bring people together, The Rainbow Cactus has always been more than a bar it’s a place where friendship, acceptance, and pride thrive.

Whether you’ve been part of our story since the early days or you’re stepping inside for the first time, you’re part of our family. Here, every colour of the rainbow shines bright and every person is celebrated for exactly who they are.
