Simon from PinkUk writes...  High fives to our team at PinkUk, okay, even if we say so ourselves, as it’s our 30th edition. We feel passionate about sharing listings for the LGBTQ+ communities, and way back, when we founded PinkUk.com in 1999, we set this is as our mission: to help people access informative, fun, safe and local community events and services for the LGBTQ+ communities.

We launched this monthly newsletter in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic in May 2020, noting the demand to keep people informed within the LGBTQ+ communities, venues, businesses and activists in what was a very challenging time for everyone.

So as autumn / fall in the UK or US, or wherever you are, gathers pace and evenings draw in, it is a time of transition on the scene. Many people have enjoyed the summer and travelled or had a great time in what has been in the UK one of the hottest summers ever. Now people are making new plans. Some are obvious, like getting back on the scene with cooler days and party nights out.

Halloween is just round the corner on Monday 31 October. See our scary listings pages for the preceding weekend. A more activist date for your diary is Coming Out Day, 11 October. In the UK, see LGBTQ+ campaign group Stonewall for more info. All of us have our own paths to coming out or staying in – but look at what others do; at the end of the day, it’s your choice. Finally, I penned a little article about the Queen’s sad passing. It may sound strange, as I’m on the centre-left politically, but I think Her Majesty helped LGBTQ+ equality - Read my article in Bent Magazine. Have a great October!

Featured venue: The Catherine Wheel, Norwich

An 'olde English' and gay pub in the heart of Norwich, the county town of Norfolk.

The Catherine Wheel pub in Norwich, offers a “fun and friendly LGBTQIA+ pub/bar” for customers, with regular monthly drag quiz and bingo nights, Dragaoke (Karaoke is hosted by a drag queen) every Friday, and regular cabaret nights or karaoke on Saturdays. The premises also has oodles of history, being a 17th century grade 2-listed (protected) building with an old well inside the pub. There’s a small sunny courtyard garden (weather permitting) and a fantastic aircon unit in the pub for those very hot times! The management say, “We do themed nights, drag competitions, and have a diverse customer base from 18 to 80 all having great times. We are gay-owned and run.” Sounds like good old fashioned gay fun!

Featured event/pride: Torremolinos Winter Pride ‘22

Torremolinos Winter Pride, Spain, 31 October - 1 November 2022

Gay Pride week takes place from 31 October to 6 November 2022, the first official Winter Pride in Torremolinos. The scene hots up at Halloween weekend, 29-31 October, so expect lots of spooky outfits parties and more. At this time of year, the temperature can still be in the low 20C range, with parties on the beach, so lots of fun to look forward to.
