Info
Birmingham Pride 2021 will take place on Sat 25th & Sun 36th September 2021.
This year's theme is ‘Stronger Together’ demonstrating our commitment to stand in unity with all members of the LGBTQ+ community fighting and campaigning against any form of Transphobia, Biphobia, Homophobia and hate.
Birmingham Pride held its first event back in 1997. Over the following 24 years Birmingham Pride has become one of the most important LGBTQ+ festivals in the UK attracting in excess of 40,000 people over the course of the weekend to the festival site in the heart of the LGBTQ+ village and over 75,000 participating in or watching our annual pride parade through the streets of Birmingham.
This year, as a result of the global Covid pandemic, the Birmingham Pride festival will be held over the weekend of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September 2021 with further events held from Thursday 23rd September 2021.
Parade
Victoria Square, Birmingham City Centre Saturday 25th September 2021 Assemble from 10.30am Sets off at 12 noon.
The Birmingham Pride parade is FREE to all to attend. The event starts at Victoria Square in the heart of the city centre from 11am and the parade starts making its way through the city from 12 noon, making its way to the LGBTQ+ village where people then make their way to the main festival activities.
Festival
We are delighted this year to introduce ‘Smithfield Live’ to the Birmingham Pride festival for the very first time.
Smithfield is the new location, situated just metres from Birmingham’s LGBTQ+ village that will play host to our BIGGEST ever Main Stage, the legendary Cabaret Stage, our groundbreaking Dance Arena and the additional attractions of the popular Fun Fair, street food stalls, community stalls, seating areas and MORE!
Previously the home of the famous Birmingham Wholesale Markets, the site is set across 12 acres within which Birmingham Pride will accommodate 20,000 attendees safely and securely, ensuring an enjoyable experience for us all.
Smithfield will go on to be developed further in the coming years, creating a unique, full time event location, providing the new home for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held in 2022.
Main Stage
The famous Birmingham Pride main stage returns, even bigger for 2021, with added runway, increased VIP area, larger screens for better visibility and of course an amazing line up of international, national and local recording artists.
Dance Arena
The Birmingham Pride Dance Arena is iconic and for the first time ever, this year will see the Dance Arena housed within a famous circus BIG TOP providing extra space and additional capacity!
Cabaret Stage
The legendary Birmingham Pride Cabaret Marquee is back again this year, showcasing some of the best Drag talent in the UK along with your favourite cabaret performers!
Street party
For the first time ever, Birmingham Pride will be operating over two exciting, unique and safe areas for the festival in 2021. The ‘Street Party’ and ‘Smithfield Live’ in the home of the former Birmingham Wholesale markets and the location for the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
The area around Hurst Street, just down from the Birmingham Hippodrome theatre, Bromsgrove Street and the surrounding streets will be the home of the Birmingham Pride ‘Street Party’ providing us with the opportunity to introduce more affordable tickets, subsidised by Birmingham Pride, whilst still maintaining a welcoming and safe environment for everyone.
The ‘Street Party’ includes your favourite LGBTQ+ bars and clubs, including Equator, The Fox, The Loft, Missing Bar, Nightingale Club and Sidewalk Bar, as well as easy access to our LGBTQ+ venues outside of the Pride Map, including The Fountain, Glamorous and Chic. Each bar or club will host individual Pride events, including cabaret, live entertainment and more, over the festival weekend. A full schedule of events can be found on our ‘Venues’ page, with direct links to your favourite bar or club.
This year sees the welcome return of the ‘Community Village Green’ providing a quieter, family friendly and accessible area within the heart of the Pride Village. On Friday 23rd September from 7pm we will be holding our ‘Free Community Pride’ event including live entertainment, community focussed stalls, street food, bar, acoustic music, LGBTQ+ performers, speakers and candlelit vigil. This event is FREE to everyone, and you can claim your ticket on the ticket link within the Birmingham Pride website. The Community Village green area will host events throughout the festival weekend, programmed and scheduled by members of the Birmingham LGBTQ+ community.
An integral and much loved element of the Birmingham Pride festival weekend is the hugely popular ‘Future Stage’, which this year will be housed within the Nightingale Club. The Future Stage is all about genre diversity and up and coming national and international talent. This year's artists include Shygirl, Alicai Harley, Jame Indigo, Harpies, Lick Events, Billy Blond, SXMSON, Felix and many more.
As always, the ‘Street party’ will include a selection of street food vendors including vegetarian and vegan options and a mix of community and commercial market stalls.
