Silent Youth
Synopsis
Mario is visiting Berlin. He wanders slightly forlornly through the city. Kirill crosses his path on a corner, and Marlo soon meets him again on Warschauer Bridge. Great intimacy is immediately tangible between the two of them, but neither dares to take the first step. They meet again, walk through the city, talk but fail to connect, then finally manage to remove their armour in the privacy of Kirill’s student digs.
Silent Youth is a soft and poetic film about a love that grows only in gestures and tentative approaches. It is a coming-out film without the dramatics, a Berlin portrait without in-crowd images and features two wonderful performances from its young actors Martin Bruchmann and Josef Mattes.
Filmed with great sensitivity. A wonderful, emotional trip. Premier
Film Information
Do you believe in “love at first sight”?
Outsiders in a busy Berlin, Marlo and Kirill certainly did not. In fact both boys thought they would never find that special someone.
They didn’t even notice each other until they had passed in the street, their hands gently brushing together and their parting glance causing an instant attraction, which catapults them into another world.
SILENT YOUTH is a powerful tale of those oft-forgotten moments of finding love and acceptance.
