Welcome to June and to summer… So three huge mega-anniversaries
Welcome to June and to summer… So three huge mega-anniversaries
It’s June and so the start of summer. Three anniversaries are coming along as we offer over 600 pride events on our listings.
These three anniversaries concern queens of various types and in different ways.

First, and best known, is the 70th anniversary of the accession of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the crown of the United Kingdom and of several other countries including Australia, New Zealand and Canada on 6 February 1952; second, it’s 50 years since the UK’s first ‘gay pride’ march, which took place in London on Saturday 1 July 1972.
So this June many LGBTQ+ identifying people in the UK and other countries, who share our Queen, are lifting a glass to both anniversaries and hopefully will have a great time celebrating all things royal.
Third: the UK’s first gay pride took place on the nearest Saturday to the anniversary of the American Stonewall uprising of 28 June 1969, in New York.
How things have changed since those brave people protested in New York.
So June is also Pride Month in the USA where many US cities and LGBTQ+ movements celebrate LGBTQ+ identities.
It’s a month of fun as well as a more sombre commemoration to reflect the struggles of the past, which we should never forget, while we also enjoy the freedoms of the present.
Never take our freedoms for granted. Pink love and respect to Her Majesty and to all the early Pride activists.
See our latest listings; we now have over 600 Prides listed.
Best wishes from Dave and team at PinkUk xxx

Featured venue: Muthu Newton Hotel, Inverness, Scotland
Standing in 21 acres of Scottish parkland overlooking the East Coast and 30 mins drive from Inverness, Muthu Newton Hotel offers a warm welcome to LGBTQ+ guests and is a great option for weddings and other life events. Dating back to 1872, the hotel was a favourite haunt of Charlie Chaplin.
It’s also well situated for scotch whiskey and golfing connoisseurs, bordering Nairn Golf Course with the Speyside whisky trail a short drive east-wards into the hills of Morayshire. You can also visit nearby Loch Ness, Cairngorms ski resorts, and take boat trips in the Moray Firth to spot some dolphins.

Warsaw/Kyiv Pride
KyivPride and WarsawPride will march for peace and freedom of Ukraine and against Russian aggression in Ukraine. The march will take place on June 25 in Warsaw.
Due to Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, the 10th anniversary of the Equality March in Kyiv can’t take place in the usual format in the Ukrainian capital. LGBT+ Ukrainians will unite with the Warsaw community this year.
