PinkUk's November Newsletter
Issue No. 55 – November 2024
Gandhinagar Pride, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India, 1 December 2024
Pinkest best wishes to you for November and hope you had or are having a great Halloween.
Across the pond, where, with the US elections looming. Please remember the LGBTQ+ communities and their rights across the US when you vote. The vitriol against some in our communities, especially Trans people, is terrible. People are being targeted in the political crossfire. As we reminded folks in the UK, when we had our election, please don’t forget to make your voice heard. It’s vital that the LGBTQ+ communities show their PINK power at the ballot box, especially in the US, which affects the rest of the world. There’s a fascinating article on the Conversation news platform on how powerful the LGBTQ+ vote is in America. Use your Pink power on Tuesday.
This month, we have the first of three instalments of his heart attack story from PinkUk’s founder, Dave. You may recall that earlier this year, Dave fell seriously ill with chest pains and was hospitalised. Dave ended up spending 19 days in intensive care. Read what happened and how he coped without is adorable spaniel, Stanley. We think it’s such a moving story to perk you up in dark November.
International Transgender Day of Remembrance in November that honours the memory of the transgender people who died in acts of bigotry and violence. Transgender Day of Remembrance began in 1999 as a vigil to honour the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was murdered in 1998.
Congratulations to Pliny Soocoormanee, who works tirelessly with human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell on global LGBT+ equality. Pliny won the 2024 UK National Diversity Award for Positive Role Model in the LGBTQ+ for his work, including campaigning in Mumbai, India, where he was placed under house arrest, urging the International Olympic Committee against awarding the Games to countries with anti-LGBTQ+ laws.
Finally, some good news in Poland where the relatively new and more liberal government is proposing same-sex partnership rights, somewhat like the UK’s Civil Partnership option.
