Dave, PinkUk’s founder, writes: what a sizzling summer and there’s plenty more still to come in Europe and North America with loads of sizzling Prides stretching into September and beyond.

Whether you’re on the beach, lighting that tasty BBQ or still in the office, take a look at our listings. Prides, night life, hotels, self-catering lets or seaside locations if you want to cool off. Some of our listed venues offer discounts if you mention PinkUk. The more we can support LGBTQ+ businesses, the more choice and fun we can have.

This month we cover some news stories: one is the enquiry into the persecution of LGBTQ+ identifying people who served in the UK armed forces. In the ‘90s, I served as a corporal in the UK special forces military when it was illegal to be gay; if found out, you would be fired on the spot. It wasn’t until 2000 that the regulations were changed.

Now there’s a UK government enquiry into how people were treated in those years.

We also update on the threat to US same-sex marriage following the top US court’s over-throw of abortion with safeguards as a constitutional right. Same-sex marriage may now be at risk. What happens in the US often reaches to the UK and Europe. Anyway, enjoy the rest of the summer.

Featured venue: Phuket Gay Homestay, Thailand

If you fancy a winter break on Phuket island on Thailand’s Indian Ocean coast, this venue maybe one to consider especially if you prefer a more intimate gay male friendly hotel.
Phuket Gay Homestay is situated in Kathu and has a limited booking of five rooms, so guests can enjoy an intimate and private stay; the property has an out-door clothing optional swimming pool and steam sauna. On Saturdays in high season (assume our winter) they have weekly pool gatherings with a dinner buffet. Phuket International Airport is an hour's drive away. Sounds like a gay heaven from the winter blues.

Featured event/pride: Didsbury Pride, Manchester, 3rd September

The LGBTQ+ community in Didsbury, south Manchester, are hold-ing their 2022 Pride on Saturday 3rd September. The organisers say they are “super excited to announce that 80s group HASSLE will be rocking the house at 6pm”. They’ll be playing a throwback set of 70s and 80s classics, all with the required, shoulder pads, platforms, hot pants and flares. So now you know. Don’t miss it.
