Capital City Pride in Des Moines' East Village takes place over the weekend 9/11th June 2023.
Capital City Pride is a 501(c)(3) organization that brings together the members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender and queer community along with their friends, allies, and supporters. We do this by producing events that inspire, educate, commemorate, and celebrate our diverse community and culture with and for the greater Des Moines metro.
Parade
The parade kicks off at noon on Sunday, June 11.
The Capital City Pride Parade is PrideFest Weekend, must see! A celebration of community and culture, the pride parade honours LGBTQ+ social and self-acceptance, legal rights, achievements and pride. The iconic route starts at the Iowa State Capital and travels down Grand Avenue into the Historic East Village. . Show us your PRIDE, Iowa!
Capital City Pride Pet Parade
June 10 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am. Presented in partnership with F&G.
We love our furry friends as members of the family, and now they have a chance to show their support for a cause you love almost as much as you love them! Schedule an appointment at the groomers, put on your best leash and collar combo and join Capital City Pride for its Six Annual Pride Pet Parade. Registration is $10.00 with Early Bird pricing and $15.00 after May 3rd. Prizes will be awarded to the contestant with Pet Pride, Pet and Owner Look-Alike, and Best Dressed, Best of Show, and Crowd Favourite.
Festival
The line up includes drag superstar Trixie Mattel (DJ set), percussion goddess Sheila E., and the fierce performer Shangela. Leslie and the LYs and Haiku Hands will also be performing. This year’s entertainment is in partnership with 80/35 Music Festival.
