Info
Cambridge Pride is coming to Jesus Green in Cambridge city centre on Saturday 17 June 2023.
Cambridge Pride 2023, sponsored by Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), will be returning to Jesus Green on Saturday 17 June 2023. Visitors can expect a full day of free entertainment and activities across a wide range of areas including DJs, drag artists, singers and bands, comedians, spoken word, panel discussions, wellbeing sessions, art workshops and cabaret performers. In its first two years, Cambridge Pride has grown to become one of the most-loved events in the city’s calendar, with an estimated 10,000 people actively taking part in the day last year.
Paul Hyde-Clarke, Chair of the Pink Festival, the charity which delivers Cambridge Pride, said: “The team is so excited to return for the city’s third Pride event. Pride is a statement and a movement that needs to be ongoing, bringing the community together on the day and throughout the year. This year, there are even more ways to get involved. We’re running free art workshops in May and June, led by a recognised community artist and supported by a variety of visiting artists, to get participants parade ready. We hope to see lots of people getting creative and taking part in the parade.”
Cambridge Pride is produced by a small team of dedicated volunteers led by the Cambridge-based charity, the Pink Festival Group. The organisers of Cambridge Pride and other similar events around the country are finding it increasingly challenging to find funding and volunteers, however, Cambridge Pride continues to work hard to ensure that we can continue providing our events. Professor Roderick Watkins, Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), said: "Pride sits at the heart of ARU’s values, and we are delighted to once again be partnering with Cambridge Pride for this year’s event".
“At ARU we are proud to provide an inclusive, supportive environment in which to work and study. We have a vibrant LGBTQ+ staff and student community, and we are looking forward to celebrating our diversity at this summer’s event.”
The events are funded by donations, corporate sponsorship, and community fundraising. The Pink Festival Group is committed to delivering an annual, free, family-friendly, and community-focused event with a parade, diverse entertainment, stalls, and a variety of opportunities to get involved, which aligns with the vision and values of the charity to Celebrate, Involve, and Inspire. If you or your company would like to sponsor, support, or help organise future events, get in touch.
Details of the art workshops and the line-up for the event will be found on Cambridge Pride’s social media channels and their website.
Parade
At midday, the event will open with its vibrant Pride parade, which is open and accessible for all to take part. This Circular Carnival will tour Jesus Green, with colour and sustainability at its heart. Visitors are encouraged to get as colourful, creative, and expressive as they so wish.
Polly Maunder, Supporting Arts Coordinator, said: “The parade is such an important part of Pride. It allows people to protest the right for equality. But it also allows people to simply celebrate and show their support. We hope every visitor, no matter their background or identity, feels welcome to show up and join in with our parade around Jesus Green at midday in solidarity with the whole community.”
