Info
Marseille Pride takes place from the 21st June to the 7th July 2024.
The main event takes place on Saturday the 6th July. The history of Pride Marseille is 31 years of a collective adventure, started in the early 90s in the emergency of AIDS and perpetuated over the years until today. To the few hundred people who demonstrated in 1994, more than 25,000 voices are responding today to commemorate the memory of Stonewall. In Marseille, we are proud of the heritage that has been passed on to us and that we, in turn, will bequeath to future generations. Marseille Pride lasts for two weeks, with all kinds of events taking place all over the city before the official Pride March, or “Marche des Fiertés.”
Theme
"Shouting the silence"
For many of us, silence is the shield that protects us as we discover who we are. We keep it in order to protect ourselves, meanwhile we take the time to understand and come to terms with who we are. It is often imposed on us because of society's norms, silencing our plural identities along with our visibility and our existence.
Society is so prompt to make us visible for the sake of lucrative agendas, whereas it becomes tongue-tied when it comes to denouncing the discrimination that makes us more insecure every day. Waves of hatred rain down on our siblings. Our community is attacked and bullied at school and in the streets. In other countries, persecution and death await us.
Silence also reigns in our communities, although they're already on edge. Sexual assault faces a complicit silence. Ageism, serophobia and fatphobia face a complacent silence. Homonationalism, racism and hatred face a guilty silence. Silence is the most powerful weapon in the hands of a society that wants us to disappear.
Silence is death. That silent world is over. In 2024, Pride Marseille is shouting out the silence: we are determined to make our demands, to create spaces of freedom to be ourselves and tell our stories, to reflect collectively in order to create a world where taking refuge in silence will no longer be the norm.
So, to those who don't want to hear us, we'll shout, we'll sing, we'll dance to make our stigmas, our struggles and our rights exist in a fabulous racket. So that, at last, the deadly silence wears off in the face of our flamboyant realities.
