Met a guy here recently who hadn't been clear about directions. By day [12 - 7] the best route is as follows - drive from the Avenue down Cemetary Rd 200-300 metres, park where the road bends to the left. Walk through the Cemetary Lake entrance to the Common[signpost and map] on the right and cross the bridge over the stream. A few yards after, take the track on the left into the wood.

Getting very popular again, the range of talent here can be amazing, some of the cruisers are really fit, many coming and going from work. If you like younger guys, there are plenty of under 30s, though also older guys of course for fans of the more mature physique. Most popular around 1pm and 5.30pm

Please note that my review dated 20th August refers to the south end of the common, the north isn't much good nowadays. It's the wood just after the Hawthorns when coming from Cemetary Road, find your own way in [many tracks] but watch out for brambles and nettles [worth it though]

Quite a few guys on bikes in the wood lunchtime and after work these days - you can whizz round the circuit on the pathways [try not to knock the rest of us over, though]. So if you've got wheels, come and check it out lads!

If you follow the directions below around 12.30 lunchtime, you'll have plenty of company, up to 10 or 12 guys if the weather's good. I tried it for the first time today, and bingo!

Here's another way to find the wood - go along Cemetary Rd until you reach the main entrance to the common next to the cemetary. As you walk up the path into the common, the wood is immediately ahead of you and to the right, on the other side of the stream. There are several ways in and lots of interesting tracks once you get inside.

Numbers have been steadily increasing recently, this traditional site is deservedly getting its reputation back. Seems popular with Asian guys these days. Being centrally placed, easy to reach on foot if you haven't got transport - when you get to the Common, just follow the directions below.

If you want some variety, try the north end of the common instead. From the corner of Hill Lane and Burgess Rd, walk down Pointout Path until you reach Green Path [the second junction]. Turn left, then check out the woods on either side. The right-hand wood was particularly busy this afternoon [Sunday]

the funfair is on the common at the moment - until April 14 - so maybe a few new guys will drop into the wood when they get fed up with candy floss! from the fair, go south towards the city centre, and to find the action just follow the tracks into the first wood you come to

Usually a good range of lads here from midday onwards, including students and suited office workers during their lunchbreaks, plus the more mature regulars. The wood gives excellent cover from the public. Guys come and go all afternoon, sometimes it's quiet, but when busy there can be 6 or 7 in the wood at any time.

Best during the day, particularly lunchtimes. From the junction of The Avenue/Northlands Rd/Cemetary Rd, take the main tarmac footpath into the Common, and immediately after the Hawthorns Wildlife Centre follow a worn track on the left through the bushes and explore the wood. All types and ages.

Late night visits can be fun but beware! There are a dodgy bunch who are there to steal your wallet. I have been approached by guys who look fit and then tried to rob me, I have been punched a couple of times too, without provocation. In short it can be fun but be very careful. I wouldn't go there on my own or without my mobile.
