Now that Christmas is over, we can look forward and plan what we are going to do in 2026 as we build up our list of prides. In 2025, we had a record number of prides listed on PinkUk with 1,308 in 59 countries.
Thailand being the first country in Asia, alone with Czechia and Liechtenstein, that legalised same-sex marriage. The European Court of Justice ruled that all EU member states must recognise lawful same-sex marriages between EU citizens from other member countries. In the USA, ‘Project 2025’ is of great concern as it plans to dismantle LGBTQ+ protections. In the UK King Charles III has unveiled a memorial to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender military personnel after a decades-long campaign against a ban on being gay in the armed forces with compensation being paid to some service personal. Budapest police banned the Budapest pride march in Hungary, yet 200,000 people turned out in defiance to Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orbán. Rome hosted its first-ever Dyke March.
