Feast Festival Adelaide 2024

Adelaide Pride, Australia, 9 to 24 November 2024

With October comes Autumn and the nights are closing in. The trees are giving us a colourful display as they change their pigments and treating us to beautiful
autumn yellows and oranges, and the harvest is plentiful. For some people, this is their favourite season of the year.

October also means Halloween on the 31st, although the preceding weekend of Sat. 26th will have a lot of festivities, with many LGBTQ+ venues holding events around the world.  Check out some of our listings Camp HNO Halloween, New Orleans, USA and the Two Brewers Halloween weekend, in Clapham, London.

October is also about culture, for example, the annual BFILondon Film Festival which, if you’re in London town this month, offers an intriguing mix of LGBTQ+ films either on preview or full release. It features a pre-release view of a new film ‘Don’t Say Gay’ about the UK’s notorious ‘Section 28’ the first anti-gay law in the UK in 100 years which banned schools and libraries from mentioning ‘gay’ issues.

Section 28, introduced in 1989, is uncannily familiar with anti-LGBTQ laws being introduced in the States and around the world today. You can check out the LFF’s LGBTQ films.

On culture and LGBTQ+ rights, London’s famous Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square which rotates with thought-provoking art features a new sculpture to commemorate the Trans and non-binary communities around the world with hundreds of plaster casts of transgender and non-binary people. Mexican sculptor Teresa Margolles said her work is a tribute to all the people killed for reasons of hate. Trans and non-binary faces unveiled on Fourth Plinth (UK) from the BBC.
