PinkUk's March Newsletter
Issue No. 47 – March 2024
Belgium Pride 2024, Brussels, Belgium, 18 May 2024
Wishing you a great March - the dawn of a Pink Spring
March is here, which means it’s the London LGBTIQ+ Film Festival 2024 taking place from the 13 to 24 March. In celebration of queer cinema, it’s all happening at BFI Southbank, London and on online. There are some exciting premieres, including Close To You: simmering apprehensions surround a family get-together as Elliot Page’s Sam returns home for the first time since transitioning.
This month also marks the annual day of Trans visibility, that takes place every year on the 31 March. The aims are to celebrate trans and non-binary people and to raise awareness of the discrimination faced by this community worldwide. We have our own trans section, and please let us know you think there should be
anything else here. We also note the murder of Brianna Ghey, on 11 February 2023 a 16-year-old British transgender girl. Stonewall has an article Trans Day of Visibility: A Global Perspective.
We congratulate Greece in legalising same-sex marriage. This is more of a step forwards than first thought, as it becomes the first Christian Orthodox country to
legalise same-sex marriage. Not only can same-sex couples marry, they can adopt children.
Apologies last month in connection with LGBT+ History Month we referred erroneously to Charterhouse as the independent school, when it is Charterhouse, the London housing charity for people over 60 who organised events for LGBT+ History Month in February.
