Gay Pride 2019
InfoPrague Pride 2020 is a week long festival of concerts, lectures, discussions, parties and events culminating in the official parade on the last Saturday of the weekend, normally the second weekend in August.
It is the biggest Pride in Eastern Europe with a strong human rights focus. Visit Pride Village with community program located on a river island, Pride House with political discussions and visiting international LGBTQ activists, and obviously do not miss the Pride Parade with 40k participants.
The Prague Pride festival takes place every year in August, all the way since 2011. It was the initial reason for the creation of the Prague Pride association by Czech LGBT activists and long-term expats in Prague. Nowadays it is one of the biggest cultural events in the Czech Republic. The festival lasts a week and regularly presents over 100 cultural and social activities, public discussions and debates, sports events and spiritual encounters. It has brought to Prague significant foreign guests, such as LGBT activist Omar Sharif Jr., the singer Conchita Wurst, the former Icelandic PM Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, the chairperson of the Dutch police group “Pink in Blue”, Ellie Lust, or the first transgender person ever elected in a parlaiment in Europe, Italian politician Vladimir Luxuria.
The culminating point of the Prague Pride week is the Saturday parade through Prague, which attracts tens of thousands. Since 2015 the parade had been led by the Mayor of Prague. In 2018, the Dutch European Parliament MP Sophie in't Veld attended the Parade. The event has been graced by the participation of other politicians, members of political parties, company employees, relatives and friends of LGBT people, who have in this way expressed their support for equal rights irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity.
In 2019, the Mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib officially hung the rainbow flag on the City Hall building, first time in history.
The main pride parade will leave from Wenceslas Square via Příkopy and Revoluční Streets across the river to Letná Park. The parade takes approximately 3 hours to make its way through the streets of the city from 2pm.
In Letná park you will find three DJ stages. You won’t be hungry or thirsty either ! Beer, cocktails and great food, even vegetarian options are catered for in the gay village.
