The procession of the Palermo Pride 2019 is Friday 28 June.
This date was chosen because it is the fiftieth anniversary of the Stonewall riots: on the night of June 28, 1969 a group of homosexuals, men and women who frequented the Stonewall Inn pub in New York, strongly rebelled against the oppressive policies of the law enforcement and collusion of these with organized crime.

On June 28th of the following year, to commemorate the uprising, the streets of Manhattan were crossed by the first Pride Parade, the Pride parade (LGBT+).

The Stonewall motions have represented the birth of the LGBT + movement as we conceive it today, in our opinion it is right to celebrate this anniversary. Today it is more important than ever to give light and merit to the courageous rebellions of people who have clashed against violence, obtuse oppression and discrimination. It is true that many things have improved since that night but it is equally true that, as history continually teaches us, acquired rights can be lost: it is good not to take what we have for granted.

In Italy there are many battles still in progress and there are unfortunately many episodes of violence against LGBT+ people and others: weak, outsiders, migrants are the object of contemporary and institutionalized forms of bullying. Today it is more important than ever to march through the streets.
