Melbourne Pride 2021 takes place on Sunday the 5th December - Celebrating our road to pride

In late 2019, Midsumma was commissioned by the Victorian State Government to carry out a consultation with the aim to understand how our communities might celebrate the anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Victoria within the scope of a one-day street party festival on Smith and Gertrude Streets, Fitzroy.

Midsumma, supported by the Victorian State Government, is proud to announce that Melbourne Pride 2021 will be held in early December 2021 (date to be confirmed); to celebrate 40 years since the Victorian parliament decriminalised homosexuality in Victoria.

The celebration will be an inspirational show of Pride for all of our diverse communities and a reflection of 40 years “road to Pride”.

From PRIDE to PROUD

As the anniversary approaches, we take the opportunity to acknowledge the courage and resilience of our LGBTQIA+ community. Melbourne Pride 2021 will commemorate the event with a once-off celebration. In a contemporary exploration of festivities, Melbourne Pride 2021 will embark on a journey of equality through inspirational arts, community involvement, food, and culture.

With the streets of Fitzroy coming alive as we celebrate the history and build on the momentum for equality.

Regional communities will also be soon invited to submit ideas and apply for support for engagement opportunities to ensure state-wide celebrations of PRIDE for this event across Victoria.

Melbourne Pride 2021 will be a multi-generational and intersectional celebration of Victorian LQBTQIA+ history and a commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Victoria.
