Sydney WorldPride 2023 takes place from 17 February to 5 March 2023.
WorldPride is a global Pride celebration that happens every few years in a different city. The right to host it is licenced by InterPride which has representatives from nearly every Pride organisation around the world. Previous WorldPride celebrations include New York in 2019 marking 50 years since the Stonewall uprising, and Copenhagen in 2021 celebrating both WorldPride and the EuroGames. Sydney was chosen by InterPride members to be the host of WorldPride in 2023, and we couldn’t be more proud.
Although the traditional Pride month in the Northern Hemisphere in June, Sydney WorldPride 2023 will be staged Friday 17 February – Sunday 5 March 2023 which is the traditional timing of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and of course, in the heart of Australian summer!
Sydney WorldPride's theme is 'Gather Dream Amplify'
The Sydney WorldPride Official Event program includes the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras signatures:
• Fair Day (Sunday 19 February 2023)
• Mardi Gras Parade and Mardi Gras Party (Saturday 25 February 2023)
• Laneway (Sunday 26 February)
Plus extra Official Events jointly curated by Festival Creative Director Daniel Clarke and Festival Creative Director – First Nations Ben Graetz, including:
• The Opening Ceremony at The Domain (Friday 24 February)
• A Human Rights Conference (Wednesday 1 March – Friday 3 March)
• Pride March across the Sydney Harbour Bridge culminating in the Closing Ceremony
at The Domain (Sunday 5 March)
• Bondi Beach Party (Sunday 5 March)
• First Nations Gala Concert
• An arts and sports program
In total, it is expected over 300 events will be staged as part of the broader Sydney WorldPride Festival, to be enjoyed by over 500,000 people including 75,000 tourists.
