Finally, after the sort of endless delays that everybody in Christchurch has experienced for themselves during these “post-quake” years, Cruz has expanded into the larger 1st-floor space above, and there is now a proper nightclub again.

CRUZ is open Wednesday to Sunday each week from 8pm till 4:30am, with a DJ playing chart and dance favourites from the 70s through to the very latest releases, Thursday to Saturday. There’s a $5 cover-charge after 10pm at the weekend, which increases after midnight.

18 months in the making, the new dance-club is open Friday and Saturday night upstairs and is decorated with a dazzling 80s theme, combining classic disco lighting from 30 years ago with the very latest lighting effects from 2013. The sound system is everything that you have come to expect from Tony and Bruce over the years, too. Fitted out from scratch, this space is nothing short of stunning. We have a high standard of dress-code at weekends; please don’t be disappointed by making us turn you away. We value your custom, but after 3 years of working in the middle of the dirty dusty bomb-site that is the Christchurch CBD, we think it is now time for us all to dress-to-impress at weekends! There’s even the best little balcony space in the entire city, overlooking bustling Victoria Street, where we can show the world that gay people still know how to dress, and how to party with style
