Let’s make 2024 the year of fun and freedom

Wishing you great fun and fortune in 2024 and especially loads of fun for LGBTQ+ Pride festivals. In a new article, we say let’s make 2024 a new dawn for LGBTQ+ freedom. For some time, PinkUk has been sounding the alarm about LGBTQ+ rights, urging people to wake up. We’ve looked at what happened in 2023; a lot of it wasn’t good: attacks on Transgender people, in the US the banning of LGBTQ+ books from schools and the campaign against a ban on the evils of conversion therapy that gathered momentum in the UK. We need to drop the mindset of complacency which characterised 2023. Unusually, 2024 is a national election year in both the US and the UK. We have leverage and political power – so use it.

Pope Francis announced his conditional approval for Catholic priests to bless same-sex couples. He is blessing the individual people. But it is not a blessing of same-sex relationships or the union of same-sex couples. In the eyes of the Catholic Church, it seems, queer love is still a sin.  This is still a significant step forwards for the Catholic Church.

Featured pride: My Hollywood Pride, Hollywood, USA

My Hollywood Pride Street Festival takes place on Sunday the 28th from 1pm to 6pm and is a collective of events presented by The Hollywood LGBTQ+ Council to showcase the City of Hollywood's commitment to the LGBTQI+ community. The street festival is a day of exciting and creative fun, education, and entertainment in the heart of Downtown Hollywood.
