Advice on sperm donation

We are a mid-thirties female couple in Leeds hoping to soon start a family via anonymous sperm donation(we would like a no contact arrangement). Could anyone please offer us some advice on how to go about this? We've explored the possibility of assisted treatment but hospital waiting lists are extremely long. On this site we've seen lots of requests for sperm with positive donor replies and wonder if this could be a route for us? All the replies we've seen seem very genuine and we would be very grateful if a man chose to help us in this way although obviously it's crucial to us to ensure the sperm is safe to use. Is there a way of ensuring this? Also we'd like to obtain a reasonable amount of medical/ ethnic/ personal history (non-identifying) to allow us to answer questions for the child in the future. Is this a realistic expectation for anonomous sperm donation? We hope so! Thank you, M & C.
